My subscription payment failed: what do I do?

Updated on

Your subscriptions renew automatically with the card you used to subscribe. If that charge fails (for example, the card expired, has no funds, or the bank declined it), your subscription becomes Payment pending.

What happens when the charge fails

  1. We send you an email with a link to pay the renewal. The creator can also send you a renewal link.
  2. We retry the charge every day for a while, with the same card.
  3. While payment is pending, you don't have access to the plan's content.
  4. If we still can't charge after several attempts, the subscription expires. To come back, you'll need to subscribe again.

How to fix it

Option 1: pay from the email

Open the email we sent you and tap the link to pay. Log in with the same account and pay with another card, or with the same one if it now has funds.

Option 2: change your card

  1. Go to My purchases > Subscriptions (esponsor.com/sponsor/payments/subscriptions).
  2. Tap Details on the pending subscription.
  3. Under Payment method, tap Change payment method or Update payment method.
  4. Pick a saved card or add a new one.

On the next attempt, we'll charge the new card.

So it doesn't happen again

  • Check that your card isn't about to expire. If you get a new card, update it on eSponsor.
  • Subscriptions need a card that allows recurring charges. Some prepaid or debit cards don't; if your bank declines the charges, ask them.
  • Check the renewal date in your subscription details so you have funds that day.

Don't recognize a charge?

If you see an eSponsor charge you don't recognize, contact support before disputing it with your bank. If you dispute the charge with your bank, your subscription is cancelled automatically.
