Stream guide: live alerts for OBS and Streamlabs

Updated on

If you stream on Twitch, YouTube, Kick or any other platform, you can show on screen, live, every time someone supports you on eSponsor. You can also show a progress bar for your campaign.

You can set them up at esponsor.com/widgets/stream.

Streaming directly on eSponsor? See the Livestreams guide. There, alerts already appear over the video on their own.

Types of alerts

In Stream you see one card per type. Tap Configure on the one you want.

AlertAppears when…
TipsSomeone leaves you a tip.
SubscriptionsSomeone subscribes to one of your tiers.
PurchasesSomeone buys a product from your shop.
CampaignsSomeone donates to your campaign. The progress bar is here too.
WishesSomeone gifts you a wish from your list.

How to add an alert to your stream

  1. Tap Configure on the alert you want.
  2. Copy the link shown at the top. Each alert has its own.
  3. In OBS Studio or Streamlabs, add a new Browser source and paste the link.
  4. Adjust the source's size and position in your scene.
  5. In eSponsor, tap Test alert. If you see it in your streaming software, you're all set.

Repeat these steps for each alert you want to show.

Important: don't share your alert links. They're only for your streaming software.

Customize your alert

  • Alert text: what's shown. Use these words, which get replaced automatically:
    • {name}: the name of the person supporting you.
    • {amount}: the amount, for tips and donations.
    • {tier}: the tier, for subscriptions.
    • {product}: the product, for purchases.
    • {wish}: the wish, for wishlist gifts.

For example: {name} has tipped {amount}.
  • Alert image: an image or GIF. Tap Change to upload your own.
  • Alert sound: the sound that plays with the alert.
  • Alert duration on-screen: how many seconds it stays on screen.
  • Show sponsor message: shows the message they left you, if any.
  • Minimum amount to show sponsor message: for tips and donations, the message only appears from that amount up.
  • Local currency: shows amounts in your currency.
  • Enable: turn the alert on or off without losing your settings.

Tap Save changes when you're done.

Your campaign's progress bar

The bar shows live how much you've raised for your campaign. It's inside the Campaigns alert, under Progress bar for streams.

  1. Customize the layout, the background and text colors, and the bar's color and thickness.
  2. Copy its link and add it to OBS or Streamlabs as a browser source, just like an alert.
  3. Use the test button to check that it updates.

The bar only shows your active campaign. If you don't have one, create a campaign first. See the crowdfunding guide.

Text to speech tips

Depending on your plan, tips can be read out loud on your stream. If you see the Pro label, your plan doesn't include it yet.

In the Tips alert, under Text to speech:

  • Activate text to speech.
  • Minimum tip to play the message: only tips from that amount up are read out.
  • Voice: choose the voice and listen to it with Play. The voice is the same for all alerts.

Then tap Admin on the Text to speech tips card. That page has to stay open while you stream for messages to be read out. There you can:

  • Turn on Autoplay so each new message plays on its own.
  • Tap Play on stream to play it on your stream, or Listen here to hear it yourself only.
  • See your New messages and Heard messages, and delete the ones you don't want.

Ideas for your alerts

  • Use a GIF and a sound your community will recognize.
  • Say thanks out loud when an alert shows up: it encourages more people to support you.
  • Show the progress bar when you have a goal, for example new gear.

To get support during your streams, share your direct donation link. To set up your tips, see the tipjar guide.
